Use our scanner to monitor IWMY 30 day historical volatility alongside longer lookback windows and spot the moments when realized and implied diverge.
Historical volatility is the annualized standard deviation of an underlying's past returns, typically measured over rolling windows like 10, 20, 30, or 60 days. The IWMY 30 day historical volatility is one of the most widely watched readings because it balances responsiveness with stability. Comparing Defiance R2000 Weekly Distribution ETF's HV to its implied volatility reveals the volatility risk premium — when IV sits well above HV, option sellers tend to have an edge; when HV runs hot relative to IV, buyers may be underpaying for movement.
IWMY is actively managed to seek potential daily income on the price, and monthly distributions by utilizing options strategies. The fund implements two strategies: The first seeks to provide daily income by selling put options either at-the-money or up to 5% in-the-money, expiring the next trading day. The option positions become profitable if the Russell 2000 Index increases in value. The second strategy involves selling in-the-money put options to attempt a minimum daily income of 0.25% to seek monthly distributions. If this is determined to not be achievable, the fund will sell options that are priced at the current market value to maximize income.
Even during periods of adverse market conditions, the fund will not seek defensive positions and it will not directly or fully participate in the gains of the index. The funds risk and return potential will fluctuate daily. A significant portion of the portfolio will be held in short-term US Treasury securities, which will serve as collateral for the short put option positions.
Sizing a long premium trade, modeling a covered call, or hunting volatility arbitrage all come back to one question: how much has the stock actually moved? Our scanner puts Defiance R2000 Weekly Distribution ETF's historical volatility side-by-side with implied readings across every lookback window, so you can see exactly where IWMY HV is running hot, cold, or in line. Make the IWMY 30 day historical volatility — and every other window — work for your edge instead of against it.
