Historical volatility is the annualized standard deviation of an underlying's past returns, typically measured over rolling windows like 10, 20, 30, or 60 days. The QQQJ 30 day historical volatility is one of the most widely watched readings because it balances responsiveness with stability. Comparing Invesco NASDAQ Next Gen 100 ETF's HV to its implied volatility reveals the volatility risk premium — when IV sits well above HV, option sellers tend to have an edge; when HV runs hot relative to IV, buyers may be underpaying for movement.
The Invesco NASDAQ Next Gen 100 Fund (Fund) is based on the NASDAQ Next Generation 100 Index (Index). The Fund will invest at least 90% of its total assets in the securities that comprise the Index by investing in the 101st to the 200th largest companies on the NASDAQ. As a result, the portfolio may be concentrated in mid-capitalization stocks. The Index is comprised of securities of the next generation of Nasdaq-listed non-financial companies; that is, the largest 100 Nasdaq-listed companies outside of the NASDAQ-100 Index. The Fund and Index are rebalanced quarterly and reconstituted annually.
Sizing a long premium trade, modeling a covered call, or hunting volatility arbitrage all come back to one question: how much has the stock actually moved?
